There’s something to be said for starting fresh. A clean slate is the opportunity to right previous wrongs. Mistakes of the past become maps of the roadblocks to avoid in the future. Every new day is the chance to do it over, do it better. Having the ability to start over is a blessing.
So, why is it that so often we fight the fresh?
I’ve been blessed to find a world of change refreshing. Those that know me personally have seen me pack up my car and move from the murda-mitten to the peach state with no job, a hundred bucks in my pocket and the promise of nothing more than a couch to sleep on and a change of scenery. When I was done tackling the “Black Mecca”, six years, a college education, and a new career later, I continued my journey south, traded peaches for oranges and took up residence in Tampa. I let my inner water baby bask in the glow of that Florida sun for a few years. When I had enough fun in the sun, I put all my beach toys in storage and trekked back to the North. The difference was like apples and oranges.
Some people wonder if I’m running from the feds or running from myself. They don’t understand that I flourish in the element of change. I’m not only talking location. Change of a phone number. Change of hair (i.e. the ‘Waiting to Exhale’ cut). Hell, even a change of friends…I cut at least one of those a year too. Change is a constant comfort in my life.
In the spirit of change, I bring you Blush & Bashful 2.0. My chance to do it over, do it better. I appreciate everyone who encouraged me to continue writing, a change I’m glad I didn’t make.
I thank you for your continued readership and support.
